AHOSKIE – An Aulander woman made her first court appearance on Tuesday following a Friday arrest on statutory rape charges of an Ahoskie teen.
Cindy Rawls Young, 33, of 437 Rawls Road was taken to the Hertford County Jail under a $125,000 cash bond. She is charged with the rape of a 13-year-old male.
According to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh, the initial report of the incident came into his department on July 30. He said APD Sgt. Michelle Garrett recorded the complaint filed against Young.
Through an investigation spearheaded by APD Lt. Jeanette Mathias and APD Sgt. Brian Knowles, information was obtained that led the local law enforcement officers to charge Young with the alleged crime.
She was arrested Aug. 6 and charged, by the Ahoskie Police Department, with a total of four felonies – two counts of statutory rape of a person age 13, 14 or 15 and two counts of statutory sex offense against a person age 13, 14 or 15.
Further investigation led to an additional charge against Young. Fitzhugh reported that Hertford County Sheriff’s Lt. Raymond Eure charged Young with one felony count of statutory rape of a person age 13, 14 or 15. That brings the total number to three felony charges of that nature.
Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan confirmed the statutory rape charge against Young.
No details were available concerning when or where the alleged crimes took place, either in Ahoskie or in Hertford County.
