AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Youth Football league is now accepting applications for the 2004 football season.

Those wishing to play must register at the Ahoskie Recreation Department before August 11. The registration is already open.

The Ahoskie Bobcats will field two teams with 30 players on each squad.

To be eligible for the team, potential players must weigh between 75-120 pounds (8-10-year-old team) and 75-144 (11-12-year-old team). Ages are as of August 1.

Organizers suggest early registration since there are only 30 positions available on each team. They also say insurance should be carried by individuals playing football because of the contact nature of the sport.

To register, each child must have a birth certificate and a $60 registration fee must be paid.

The Ahoskie Youth Football League is a member of the Albemarle Youth Football League, which is comprised of teams in Gates County, Bertie County, Edenton, Elizabeth City, Camden and Ahoskie. An eight-game schedule is anticipated this year.

Parents will be responsible for providing transportation to and from games and are encouraged to participate in game administration and concession sales.
