Dorothy B. Harrell

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Dorothy Britton Harrell, 83, a native of Ahoskie, died July 9, 2004, in Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of William Jesse Harrell.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. John Burr. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Ahoskie Cemetery, Ahoskie.

She was a retired homemaker and a member of Alexander Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty J. Lopez of Fremont, Ohio; two sons, Bobby M. Harrell and John T. Harrell, both of Portsmouth; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Emma E. White

GATESVILLE -Emma Lee Eure White, 92, a native of Gates County, died July 9, 2004. She was the widow of Willard R. White.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in the Gatesville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jay Helms. Burial was in the Gatesville Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. White was a homemaker, she worked for many years as a nurse with both Dr. T.L. Carter and Dr. L.C. Hand Jr. In later years, she worked as an attendant with the former Rountree-Hofler Funeral Home and as it changed ownership to become Twiford’s Funeral Home and later Miller Funeral Home. She was a member of the Gatesville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Kennington of Como and Linda Pierce of Franklin; a sister, Gladys E. Stallings of Hobbsville; a brother, W.H. &uot;Bill&uot; Eure of Gatesville; and two grandchildren.

Richard L. Jordan

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Richard Lee Jordan, 61, a native of Lawrenceville, Va., died July 7, 2004, at Veterans Medical Center, Augusta, Ga.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander. Burial will be in the Steward family cemetery, Como.

Survivors include his wife, Floscelia Lumpkins Jordan; five daughters, Carolyn, Valerie, Artisteen, Daphine and Myra; six sons, James, Keith, Charles, David, Anthony and Bernard; a brother, Larry Capehart; two sisters, Prospine Steward and Rosa Beale, both of Como; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Bernice Everett

MURFREESBORO – Bernice Everett, 71, a native of Northampton County, died July 9, 2004, at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by the Rev. Luther Morris. Burial will be in Carver’s Park Cemetery, Murfreesboro. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, John O. Everett; children, Michael Vinson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Ernest Victor Vinson of Savannah, Ga.; one brother, Percell Deans of Bronx, N.Y.; five sisters, Dorothy Mae Harris of Como, Lucille Jones and Clara Deans, both of Murfreesboro, Inez Wiggins of Murfreesboro and Ella Sneed of Durham; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Sylvia Mason

COFIELD – Sylvia Mason, 49, a native of Hertford County, died July 12, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. William C. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Mason was a teacher at Moton Fundamental School in Hampton, Va. She was a member of New Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, George and Dora Powell of Cofield; one sister, Linda Combo of Cofield; and three brothers, George T. Powell III of the home, Johnny Powell of Harrellsville and Michael Powell of Newport News.

Lecky O. Winborne Jr.

AHOSKIE – Lecky O. Winborne Jr., 18, a native of Hertford County, died July 11, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newsome Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard E. Smallwood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Winborne was a student at Hertford County High School and a member of Newsome Grove Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Hertford County Basketball, Track and Football Team.

Survivors include his mother, Beverly Staten of Ahoskie; his father, Lecky Winborne Sr. of Windsor; his grandparents, Malachi and Ruth Staten of Ahoskie; and three sisters, Lavonya Staten of Newport News, Va., Sharmaine Lee and Camille Holley, both of Ahoskie.
