WINDSOR – First-year head coach Willie Roberson has announced his team’s 2004 schedule.
The Falcons, fresh off a 5-6 season in which they made the playoffs be winning four of their last six, will have an endowment game and three tough non-league contests before opening play in the Northeastern Coastal Conference.
&uot;We have a tough non-conference schedule,&uot; Roberson said. &uot;We have to travel to Wilson Hunt for the first time in several years and then have three excellent football teams coming to Falcon Stadium.&uot;
The Falcons will travel to James B. Hunt High School in Wilson on August 20 for a North Carolina High School Athletic Association Endowment contest. The Falcons will face the Warriors for the first time since the teams were members of the former Big Eight Conference.
Following that encounter, the Falcons will host three consecutive home contests starting with the August 27 game against Goldsboro.
Bertie will have their open date on September 3 before facing J.H. Rose at home on September 10 and then hosting Wallace-Rose Hill in Windsor on September 17.
The Falcons will get a chance to redeem one of their two conference losses from last season on September 24 when they travel to John A. Holmes High School in Edenton.
Following that contest, Bertie will host home games against Pasquotank (October 1) and Northeastern (October 8).
The next part of the Falcons’ schedule will be consecutive trips to Currituck (October 15), Manteo (October 22) and First Flight (October 29) for contests inside the Northeastern Coastal Conference wars.
The Falcons then close out their 2004 schedule by hosting archrival Hertford County in Windsor on November 5.
&uot;It’s a tough schedule,&uot; Roberson said, &uot;but we’re looking forward to getting started.
&uot;I think our conference will be stronger this season and we will be too,&uot; he closed.
