AHOSKIE – Early last month, members of Ahoskie’s American Legion Post 102 attended the Department of North Carolina’s 86th Annual Convention in Raleigh.

During the four-day conference, which was held at the North Raleigh Hilton, members of the post were recognized for their Support Group to the National Guard headed by Sergeant Major Johnny Farmer.

The conference included leadership workshops and discussion on community service, national security, legislative and financial issues and other informative subject matter relating to the various legion entities.

&uot;Every year in the month of June, we come together for a time of fellowship with 44,000 legionaires,&uot; said Rev. Jimmy Jarrell of Post 102 who was elected to his sixth term as

American Legion Department Chaplain for the state of North Carolina.

&uot;It’s a time we all look forward to,&uot; he said.

Jarrell’s wife, Alice, was also elected to serve for the first time as State Chaplain for the American Legion Auxiliary, while Post 102 Commander John Bracy was promoted to serve as District Vice Commander of District 1 for Northeast North Carolina.

&uot;There’s no doubt we will all be busy,&uot; said Jarrell, &uot;but it’s a privilege to serve in the legion and we all have a really good time.&uot;
