Ruth N. Hamilton

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Ruth Nichols Hamilton, 85, a native of Hertford County, died June 5, 2004, in her residence. She was the widow of Leo W. Hamilton.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Tom Porter and the Rev. Terry Riddle. Sturtevant Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include a daughter, Susie T. Parker; a son, Edward Harrell, both of Ahoskie; a stepson, Billy Hamilton of Portsmouth; a sister, Evie Outlaw of Ahoskie; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Edward H. Worrell

SUFFOLK, Va. – Edward Harold Worrell, 83, a native of Hertford County, died June 4, 2004, at his home. He was the widower of Annie Wright Baines Worrell.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery, Hertford, by the Rev. John F. Shappell. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home was in charge.

Worrell was a retired farmer and a Methodist.

Survivors include his sisters, Nellie Bryant of Newsoms, Ruth Culbertson and Eva Holland, both of Suffolk, Alice Barnhill Mansfield of Suffolk; and a brother, George Pope of Courtland.

Odette M. Castelow

WINTON – Odette Marie Castelow, 71, a native of St. Nager, France, died June 4, 2004.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Harrellsville Cemetery, Harrellsville. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

She is survived by a son, Ray Gibbs of Winton.

Christine Eley

CHICAGO, Ill. – Christine Eley, a native of Hertford County, died June 3, 2004, at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. H.H. Murrill. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Rency and Almatie S. Eley, both of Ahoskie; six brothers, James Slaughter of San Antonio, Texas, Larry Eley of Park Forest, Rency Eley Jr. of Suffolk, Va., Calvin Eley of Pasadena, Md., Marvin Eley of Durham and Ronald Eley of Omaha, Neb.; and five sisters, Joycelyn Eley of Durham, Icy F. Hedgepeth, Sonji Eley and Wilma Williams, all of Ahoskie and Thennie Speight of Charlotte.

Bessie J. Watson

COLERAIN – Bessie J. Walton, died June 4, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Nathaniel Thompson. Burial was in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Noah Watson of Colerain; a son, Christopher Watson of Colerain; one daughter, Victoria Watson of New York City; two sisters, Mildred Wynn and Smithie Deberry, both of Colerain; and three grandchildren.

Jesse L. Casper

AHOSKIE – Jesse Lee Casper, 62, a native of Hertford County, died June 6, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earlys Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald McSwain. Burial will be in Ahoskie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the home.

Casper was an Army veteran and a retired auto body repairman.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Casper; his sons, Daniel Curtis Casper and Marcus Cecil Casper, both of Ahoskie; and his brothers, John Thomas &uot;Bug&uot; Casper of Ahoskie and Franklin Earl Casper of Colerain.
