Mildred M. Minton
FRANKLIN, Va. – Mildred Caroline McCoy Minton, 91, died May 19, 2004. She was the widow of Joseph Maddrey Minton.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 in the chapel of Franklin Baptist Church, 208 N. High St. A reception in the church fellowship hall will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a preferred charity.
Survivors include two children, Joseph Maddrey Minton Jr. of East Lansing, Mich., and Frederick McCoy Minton of Richmond; a brother, Harold McCoy of Ahoskie; and two grandchildren.
Rosa Francis
NORFOLK, Va. – Rosa Francis, 97, a native of Harrellsville, died June 6, 2004, at Tandem Health Care.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at Queen Street Baptist Church, 413 E. Brambleton Ave., by Dr. Peter Wherry. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. She was a domestic engineer for many years and later became very crafty in making her own ceramics. She was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church and served on Usher Board No. 2.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Johnson of New York, N.Y.; and one grandson.
Marjorie A. Jones
NORFOLK, Va. – Marjorie A. Jones, a native of Ahoskie, died June 6, 2004. She was the widow of James Jones.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at the Norfolk chapel of Community Funeral Home by the Rev. Raymond Dempsey. Burial will be in the Jones Memorial Park.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Veal; four sons, Larry Veal, Randy Freeman, Willie Freeman and Bobby Freeman, all of Norfolk; a sister, Effie Mae Phillips; a brother, Louis Freeman, both of Hampton; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Pearl E. Harrell
EDENTON – Pearl Evans Harrell, 93, a native of Chowan County, died May 21, 2004, in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was the widow of Gilbert Leon Harrell
A funeral was conducted Sunday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, by Dr. James Horton. Burial will be in Beaver Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Harrell was a homemaker and formerly worked at Roses Dept. Store. She had been an active member of the Advance Home Demonstration Club, and was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, where she had served as the WMU director, been a Sunday school teacher. She was also a Sunbeam leader and a member of the church choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois H. Ashley of Edenton; three sons, Aubrey E. Harrell of Williamston, Sherwood L. Harrell of Suffolk, Va., and Zackie W. Harrell of Gatesville; three sisters, Beulah Williams of Franklin, Eleanor Byrum of Tyner and Helen Lowe of Suffolk; three brothers, Milton Evans, Marvin Evans and Alvin Evans, all of Edenton; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Douglas W. White
MERRY HILL – Douglas Wayne White, 35, a native of Hertford County, died June 8, 2004.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Freddie Harris and the Rev. Michael Bryant. The family will received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his mother, 440 White Oak Road. Memorial gifts may be made to the Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983.
White was a member of Askewville Baptist Church. He was employed as a service technician.
Survivors include his mother, Florine Holder White Jones of Windsor; his stepfather, Clarence Jones; and two brothers, Richard &uot;Ricky&uot; White and William White, all of Windsor.
