MURFREESBORO – Next time you’re online, you might want to check out a curious link on the website of CNN and Fox news.

In a recent meeting of the Watermelon Festival Committee at Roberts-Vaughn House in Murfreesboro, Coordinator Kay Mitchell shared exciting news that the Watermelon Festival had been selected among the top 10 festivals to attend.

According to Mitchell, the committee was contacted by CNN to let them know that the Watermelon Festival, which is now in it’s 19th year, was rated one of the best festivals and would receive national recognition on their website.

&uot;When they called, they told me that the festival was chosen for the food and wine category and that it would be recognized among other festivals in the country that were selected to be top notch,&uot; said Mitchell. &uot;We were so excited.&uot;

The festival, which offers a fantastic variety of food, amusement rides, street dances, live musical entertainment, games, antiques, collectables, crafts, a fireworks display, agricultural parade and of course all you can eat watermelon is scheduled to take place August 4-7 and is employing a &uot;Sunny Tropical Party&uot; theme.

&uot;We’re really excited about the festival this year,&uot; said Mitchell.

The small town festival, which was also recognized on Fox news’ website, will be advertised in over 400 newspapers nationwide.

In addition to the national coverage, the state magazine publication, Carolina Country is scheduled to have a four-page write-up in its July edition. &uot;It’s really amazing,&uot; said Mitchell.

&uot;I almost can’t believe it. In fact, we even had a company by the name of Glover Construction, contact us and ask us if they could sponsor the event and that has never happened before,&uot; she said bubbling with excitement.

Mitchell also expressed optimism in marketing this year’s newly designed T-shirts.

&uot;They are so cute. The artist really did a fantastic job of designing them with our theme,&uot; she said. &uot;We are already seeing a positive trend in online T-shirt sales.&uot;
