ROCKY MOUNT – Ray Jerome Batts, 40, died May 20, 2004, at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Richard Battle. Interment will be in Ricks Boddie Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.

Lewis Carter

WINDSOR – Lewis Carter, 94, a native of Bertie County, died May 21, 2004 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Shelton Barnes. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Carter was a retired building contractor.

Robert E. Sexton Sr.

RICH SQUARE – Robert Emel Sexton Sr., 84, died May 21, 2004.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Flood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Whidbee-Smith Funeral Home, Rich Square.

Jessie M. Bonner

MURFREESBORO – Jessie M. Bonner, died May 24, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Bonner was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses, Woodland.
