Post 102 swept

AHOSKIE – Wayne County Post 11 swept a senior American Legion doubleheader from Ahoskie Post 102 Sunday afternoon.

The local Post team fell by counts of 19-2 and 3-1 to fall to 1-16 on the season.

In the first game, Post 11 scored eight runs in the first inning to secure the victory.

Ahoskie responded with a single run in the bottom of the first when Lance Thomas started the offense with a single to center.

Ben Bright added another single, but was erased when Heath Britt hit into a fielder’s choice.

Thomas scored on Dustin Briggs’ RBI-single to left to trim the deficit to 8-1.

Wayne County added three runs in the third frame and four runs in the fourth inning.

Ahoskie scored its final run of the first contest in the bottom of the fourth.

Michael Burton singled to left and O.J. Dobbin followed suit.

Burton was erased at third when Thomas reached on a fielder’s choice, but Dobbin moved to second on the play and scored on a Dusty Todd RBI-single.

Post 11 added their final four runs in the top of the fifth to end the game.

Jonathan Brantley suffered the loss while Aaron Hoggard and Burton also pitched.

Ahoskie had nine hits, led by Thomas and Briggs with two each.

In the second game, Post 102 was held to four hits as Wayne County won 3-1.

Ahoskie scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth frame.

Britt doubled to left-centerfield and scored on a Lance Thomas single. At the time, that deadlocked the game at 1-all, but Wayne County scored a run in the fifth and one in the seventh to take the win.

Briggs suffered the loss on the mound after relieving Todd. Tucker Warren tossed the final two innings.

Ahoskie will pay Pitt County at home tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m.
