MERRY HILL – Gabe White’s RBI infield single in the bottom of the fifth snapped a 4-4 stalemate and Lawrence Academy went on to defeat Halifax Academy, 6-4, here Monday in non-conference baseball action.

The Warriors, ranked third in the latest NCISAA state 1A baseball poll, evened their overall record at 4-4 heading into today’s (Thursday) game at conference rival Ridgecroft School (3:30 p.m. start).

Tied at 4-4 with the Vikings, Daniel Waters jumpstarted Lawrence’s rally by slapping a double. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored what later proved to be the game-winning run on White’s infield single. White then swiped second and scored an insurance run when Andrew Barber lined an RBI single to center.

That was all the offense Lawrence ace pitcher Thomas Ward needed as he held Halifax in check for the remainder of the game. Ward tossed the complete-game victory, allowing six hits while fanning nine.

Lawrence opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first. There, Chad Simmons (walk, stolen base) and Ward (fielder’s choice) got things going for the Warriors. Simmons came around to score on an error and, following a walk to White, Ward raced home on Jacob Harrell’s RBI single. Erik Hughes then loaded the bases with his single, setting up White to score on Barber’s RBI infield single and Harrell to score on an error.

Halifax rallied for a 4-4 tie thanks to one run scoring on an error in the second inning followed by Robert Davis’ three-run homer in the top of the third.

Lawrence finished with eight hits, led by Barber with two hits and two RBI’s.
