Lady Falcons fall

WINDSOR – D.H. Conley scored nine runs in the first inning and eliminated Bertie High School softball from the playoffs here Friday.
The Lady Vikings scored a 12-1 victory in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs.
After the Lady Vikings got on the board with nine runs in the first, they added three additional marks in the top of the third to take a 12-0 lead.
In the home half of the same inning, Jody Mizelle singled for Bertie with two outs. She advanced to second when Courtney Dunlow was hit by a pitch, but the inning ended with a fly out.
The Lady Falcons scored their run in the bottom of the fifth frame when Caitlyn Dunlow singled with one out. After Kelly Cummings was hit by a pitch, Mizelle had another single to load the bases.
Courtney Dunlow plated Caitlyn Dunlow with an RBI-single to center. A fielder’s choice and a strikeout ended the game.
Bertie had five hits with Mizelle recording a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon. Courtney Dunlow and Caitlyn Dunlow had the other hits.
