Tyrone C. Manley
CLEVELAND, OH – Tyrone C. Manley, 47, a native of Hertford County, died February 15, 2004, in Cleveland.
A funeral will be conducted Saturday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Harkness. Burial will be in the Moore family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Survivors include his father, Connie Manley of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Josef Manley of Hampton, Va., and Keith Manley of Greensboro; and seven sisters, Thelma Green of Murfreesboro, Joan Maye and Phyllis Gaulden, both of Warrensville, Ida Gaulden of Farmington Mills, MI, Marsha Y. Jones of St. Bernardino, Calif., Ronsine Barhams of Garfield Heights and Jean Cofield of Hampton.
Marie F. Jones
KELFORD – Marie F. Jones, 70, a native of Bertie County, died February 15, 2004, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted Saturday at Church of God for All People. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Mrs. Jones was a retired nurse. She was a member of Church of God for All People.
Survivors include her husband, Kelly Mitchell; a son, Willie McCoy Freeman of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four daughters, Margaret Beckless of Brooklyn, Carrie Iseghohi and Shirley Jones-Hardy, both of Kelford and Marian Williams of Windsor.
Frank Hague Jr.
AHOSKIE – Frank Samuel Hague Jr., 61, a native of Chesapeake, Va., died February 15, 2004, at his home.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Baptist Church. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
Hague was a retired electrician with IBEW Local #80 and attended Elm Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Buck Hague; a daughter, April M. Hague Roberts of Ashland; three sons, Frank S. Hague III of Suffolk, Va., William Wilson of Monaca, Pa., and Joseph E. Wilson of Beaver Falls, Pa.; her mother, Margaret Todd Hague of Ahoskie; a brother, Roy Hague of Ahoskie; and nine grandchildren.
Maggie Bond
WINDSOR – Maggie Bond, a native of Windsor, died February 10, 2004.
A funeral was conducted Saturday at Bazemore Temple Church of God in Christ by Elder Maurice Davenport. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.
Survivors include her children, Mary Powell and Maggie Treherne of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Evonne Morris of Windsor; one foster daughter, Mary Moore of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six brothers and five sisters.
Catherine W. Ford
WINDSOR – Catherine White &uot;Cat&uot; Ford, a native of Windsor, died February 10, 2004 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was the widow of Wilson Lewis Ford.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church by Elder William D. White Jr. Burial was in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home was in charge.
Survivors include two daughters, Clara McNeill of Robersonville and Lurenza Mosley of Windsor; four sons, Jeffrey White, Glenn Maurice White and Wesley Carnell Ford, all of Windsor and Patrick M. Ford of Robersonville; a brother, William White of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Cedesa White, Georgia Hobbs and Lizzie Leary, all of New York City, Eleanor Jenkins of Portsmouth; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Carolyn B. Franklin
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Carolyn Brown Franklin, a native of Ahoskie, died February 14, 2004, at her winter home in Ocala, Fla.
A graveside service was conducted Wednesday at Rosewood Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made in celebration of her life to the local Make-A-Wish Foundation. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel was in charge.
Mrs. Franklin received her licensed practical nurse degree from Norfolk General Hospital School of Nursing. Carolyn served her patients at Boone Clinic at Little Creek Amphibious Base until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the Cypress Point Country Club.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley John Franklin Jr.; daughters Patti Franklin Carr of Arlington, Va., and Mary Lou Franklin Williard of Virginia Beach; her brother, Joseph C. Brown Sr. of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren.
Lawrence R. Harmon
DURHAM – Lawrence Ray Harmon, 75, a native of Bertie County, died, February 14, 2004.
A funeral was conducted Tuesday at Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Turnbough. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Hudson Funeral Home was in charge.
Harmon was retired owner of Harmon Welding Company. He was a member of Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and served on the finance committee.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynne H. Moody of Clayton; one brother, Linwood Harmon of Southern Pines; two sisters, Hazel Francis of Ahoskie and Carolyn Reynolds of Augusta, GA; and two grandchildren.

Carolyn P. Murphy
COMO – Carolyn P. Murphy, 53, a native of Hertford County, died February 15, 2003, at her residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Millneck Baptist Church by the Rev. Benton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include a son, Terence T. Murphy of Raleigh; and two brothers, Fetcher E. Pope Jr. of Baltimore, Md. and Frank Harris Sr. of Como.
James M. Womble Jr.
WILSON – James Malachi &uot;Jimmy&uot; Womble, Jr., 75, died February 16, 2004.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. Chris Hardman, Dr. Doug Murray and Rev. Phil Byrum at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 US 264-A West. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. Demond Vaughan
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Demond Vaughan, a native of Ahoskie, died February 14, 2004, in New York.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, Mapleton. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Winton. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Survivors include a daughter, Bianca Vaughan; his parents, Thornton Vaughan of Murfreesboro and Jacqueline Vaughan of New York; one brother, Courtney Holloman of New York; paternal grandmother, Hollie Vaughan of Murfreesboro; and his maternal grandparents, Annie Newsome of New York and Hollis Newsome of Murfreesboro.
Eather M. Buffaloe
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Eather Mae &uot;Mistis&uot; Buffaloe, 97, a native of Gumberry, died February 15, 2004, at home. She was the widow of Paul G. Buffaloe.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at Roanoke-Salem Baptist Church, Garysburg, by the Rev. Sessoms. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Corprew Funeral Home and Cofield Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Buffaloe was a retired cafeteria worker for Gumberry High School after 20 years of service. She was a member of Roanoke-Salem Baptist Church, Garysburg.
Survivors include two daughters, Clara P. Darden of Portsmouth and Lizzie Beatrice Walker of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Gladys Summerville and Ethel Williams; a brother, Fred Wyche, all of Philadelphia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Mary L. Holloman
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Mary L. Holloman, 86, a native of Bertie County, died February 13, 2004, at her home. She was the widow of Turner L. Holloman.
She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
Survivors include a daughter, Renay White of Portsmouth; two sons, Clarence Raynor of Newport News and Roy Lee Newsome of Ahoskie; a brother, William C. Raynor of Portsmouth; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Robert Earls. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
Jeffrey C. Abbott
GATES – Jeffrey Corbin Abbott, 41, a native of Lenoir County, died February 13, 2004, in his home.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Savage’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Grace Dill. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.
Abbott was a long distance truck driver and a member of Savage’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors include an aunt, uncle and several cousins.
Ian Baube
EDENTON – Ian Gaston Baube, 68, a native of London, England, died February 16, 2004, at his home.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Albemarle Baptist Church by the Rev. Greg Brinson. The family will receive friends at Chowan Country Club immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Albemarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27917. Evans Funerals & Cremations is assisting the Baube family.
Baube career involved years of real estate sales including his own company, Old Line Properties. He retired in 1998 as a homebuilder and real estate agent from CI Mitchell and Best Co.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Gonzalez Baube; two daughters, Jannine Elizabeth Holden of Damascus, Md. and Jacqueline Francoise Kretzer of Edenton; two sons, William Stuart Baube of Lawrenceville, Va. and Jean Barrett Baube of Damascus; daughter, Michelle Camille Jones of Conway; a stepdaughter, Michelle Gonzalez of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister, Anne Burdick of Olney; and seven grandchildren.
