MLK’s ‘dream’ lives on, Jan. 15

AHOSKIE – Hertford County Public Schools will host the sixth annual &uot;Continuing the Dream&uot; Program in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Bearfield Primary School at 7 p.m., Thursday, January 15.
The purpose of this program is to honor individuals or organizations whose actions have made a significant impact on unity or enhanced racial harmony within Hertford County.
This year’s recipients of the &uot;Continuing the Dream&uot; Award are Annie V. Felton, Ophelia Downing Jones, Russell P. Martin (posthumously), and Clarence S. Newsome (posthumously).
The keynote speaker for the evening will be The Honorable Alfred W. Kwasikpui, Chief District Court Judge for District 6B. Judge Kwasikpui was the first black District Court Judge to be elected for Judicial District 6B. During this time, he was only the second black Chief District Court Judge in North Carolina’s history.
Students from Hertford County Public Schools will provide entertainment for the evening.
