David R. Johnson

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – David R. &uot;Jabo&uot; Johnson, 65, a native of Aulander, died

December 14, 2003, in his home.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday in the Living Waters Christian Fellowship by the Rev. Nelson Fields. Burial was in Olive Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Living Waters Christian Fellowship, 2700 Gum Road, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, was in charge.

Johnson was a co-owner of Johnson and Shires Body Shop and a member of Living Waters Christian Fellowship.

Survivors include his wife, Sandi R. Johnson; daughter, Glenda &uot;Mitch&uot; Stevens of Raleigh; stepchildren, Victoria Howerton, Bobby L. Cahoon Jr. and Michael L. Cahoon; sisters, Ruth &uot;Sissy&uot; Tripp, Jean Pierce, Helen Farmer and Faye Thompson; brothers, Charlie Johnson and J.C. Johnson; grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Ellis R. Felton

EURE – Ellis Rountree Felton, 87, a native of Gates County, died December 15, 2003, in the home of her daughter. She was the widow of Mills Nathan Felton.

Mrs. Felton retired from Triple A Grocery in Gatesville and she was an active member of Eure Christian Church and its Women’s Fellowship and was a member of Gatesville Chapter No. 335 and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include four daughters, Marlene Campbell, Mildred Bell and Janette Edwards, all of Eure and Jackie Neely of Fuquay-Varina; a sister, Geraldine Humphries; brother, Waverly Rountree, both of Eure; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Eure Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society or to University Hospice, Myers Street, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Emma G. Pryor

EURE – Emma Guthrie Pryor, 71, a native of Beaufort County, died December 15, 2003, in her home.

Mrs. Pryor was a homemaker and was a member of St. Clairs Church of Christ in Bath.

Survivors include her husband, James H. Pryor; a daughter, Vanessa Wilbur of PoncedeLeon, Fla.; three sons, Lonnie M. Ayers Sr. of Suffolk, Glenn R. Ayers of Spring Grove, Va., and John B. Ayers Sr. of Floyd, Va.; two stepdaughters, Blanche Chamberlain of Chesapeake and Wanda Faye Frank of Norfolk; a stepson, Wayne Pryor of Virginia; two brothers, Russell Guthrie of Chesapeake and James Guthrie of Eure; 16 grandchildren and a great- grandchild.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville. Friends may join the family at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to any chapter of the American Cancer Society or to one’s favorite charity.

Martha B. Davila

SUFFOLK, Va. – Martha Benton Davila, 63, a native of Corapeake, died December 13, 2003, in San Antonio, Texas.

A memorial service was celebrated Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Davila was an elementary teacher for 25 years.

Barbara Taylor

PATERSON, N.J. – Barbara J. Powell &uot;BJ&uot; Taylor, 58, a native of Enfield, died December 14, 2003.

A funeral

will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Curtis Locus. Burial will be in Staton Memorial Cemetery, Scotland Neck. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Stacy and Tanya of Patterson; a son, Anthony Powell of Rich Square; five sisters, Barbara An of Capital Heights, Md., Victor Marie Edmonson of Washington, D.C., Margaret Covington and Hattie Lassiter, both of Fayetteville and Lavon Arrington of Rocky Mount; six brothers, Johnny Jones Jr. of Washington, Lloyd Allen Jones of Glenarden, James Thomas Jones of Capital Heights, Thomas Earl Arrington of Rocky Mount, Larry Donnell Arrington of Forestville and John McAuther Arrington of Winchester, Va.; one adopted brother, Thomas Earl Bradley of Rocky Mount; two grandchildren; and three godchildren.

Kalvin Jefferson

WINDSOR – Kalvin O. Jefferson, 34, died December 14, 2003.

RALEIGH – Thaddieous Outlaw, 53, died December 16, 2003, at Raleigh Community Hospital.
