Otis J. Paschal

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Mrs. Otis Jamison Paschal, 83, a native of Berkley in Norfolk, died December 8, 2003, in Ahoskie. She was the widow of Donald K. Paschal Sr.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk, by the Rev. Gregory Hensley. Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, 1302 Jefferson St., Chesapeake, is in charge.

Mrs. Paschal was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Morrow; two sons, Clifton S. &uot;Bud&uot; Pierce, both of Eure, and Donald K. Paschal Jr. of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Alfreda Bazemore of Eure, Katherine Reverly of Connersville, Ind. and Dorothy Brinkley of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Paul P. Riddick

GATES -Paul Paige Riddick, 76, and his wife, Hope Outland Riddick, 74, died December 7, 2003, as the result of a house fire.

Mr. Riddick was born in Gates County. He was a retired farmer, had served on the Gates County Soil and Water Conservation Board for 31 years, was a member of the Gates County Board of Education for eight years, had served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Damascus Christian Church in Sunbury where he sang in the church choir.

Mrs. Riddick was born in Gates County, she was a homemaker and a member of Damascus Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Riddick Burns of Apex; a son, Marty Riddick of Gates; and seven grandchildren.

Also surviving Mr. Riddick are a sister, Mary Jane Gellner of Brooksville, Fla., and brothers, Loyd E. &uot;Pete&uot; Riddick of Hertford, McKay Riddick of Belvidere, and Frank Riddick of Adairsville, Ga.

Additional survivors of Mrs. Riddick include a sister, Peggy Parker and a brother, F.J. Outland, both of Sunbury.

A joint funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Damascus Christian Church by the Rev. Forrest Guthrie and the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Gates or Gatesville volunteer fire departments or to Damascus Christian Church in Sunbury.

Charles Pate Sr.

JACKSON – Charles Henry Pate Sr., 92, died December 8, 2003. He was the widower of Lucy Mae Rose Pate.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Pate family cemetery by the Rev. Craig Perry and the Rev. Skip Cook. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to University Hospice, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Pate was a retired farmer.

Survivors include daughters, Anna P. Epps of Glenn Allen, Va., Margaret P. Lassiter and Carolyn P. Medlin, both of Halifax; a son, Charles Henry Pate Jr. of Jackson; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Elliott Stephen IV

WOODLAND – Elliott Sterling Stephen IV, 20, a native of Norfolk, VA, died December 6, 2003 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lynn Bradley. Burial was in the Stephen family cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, was in charge.

Survivors include his parents, Elliott and Beulah Stephen of the home; sisters, Susanne Boone of Raleigh and Yeshin Mallory of Woodland; and brothers, Reveria Mallory and Shesun Lucas, both of Asheville.

Icey M. Eason

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Icey Marie Eason, a native of Gates County, died December 4, 2003.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by Minister Ronald L. Teague. The family will receive friends at 7850 Camella Road, Norfolk. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Joe o Norfolk and Valerie Eason of Brooklyn; a son, Michael Marks of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Hazel P. Mills

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Hazel Parker Mills, 54, of Roanoke Rapids, died December 5, 2003, at Guardian Care Nursing Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Garysburg, by Apostle T.A. Mason. Interment will be in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Reginald Terry

AHOSKIE – Reginald Arthur Terry, 46, a native of Portsmouth, Va., died December 8, 2003, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery. Burial will follow. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his parents, Charlie M. and Janice Wynn Terry of Ahoskie; a

son, Isaac Terry of Minnesota; and two sisters and two brothers, Vandia Terry of Portsmouth, Victor Terry of South Dakota, Cynthia Tann of Ahoskie and Charlie Morings of Gates County.

Janette Newsome

COMO – Janette Beaton Newsome, 88, a native of Northampton County, died December 9, 2003, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nebo Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Holloman. Burial will be in the Boone-Jones family cemetery, Murfreesboro. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include children, William Newsome of Ahoskie, Ben Newsome, Maggie Williams, Doretha Lee and Carolyn Murphy, all of Murfreesboro, Wesley Newsome of Virginia each, Va., Minnie Jordan and Rose Reid, both of Norfolk and Marion Smith of Como; one sister, Margaret Jordan of Murfreesboro 46 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Meander Slade

AHOSKIE – Meander Slade, died December 9, 2003, at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Zion Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Lebron Britt Jr. Burial will be in the Bryan-Slade family cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel.

Survivors include a son, Marlo Slade of Ahoskie; four daughters, Annie Prout and Ollie Lee, both of Colerain, Carolyn Watford of Portsmouth, Va., and Ivory Jordan of Ahoskie; 36 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
