Clara M. Sharp

NORFOLK, Va. – Clara M. Sharp, 72, a native of Jackson, died November 8, 2003, at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Olive Grove Baptist Church, 1034 Albert Ave., Norfolk, by the Rev. Clinton Brown. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial cemetery. E.A. Hughes Funeral Home is in charge.

She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church where she was involved with Hospitality Ministry, Pastor’s Aide Ministry and Senior Usher Board.

Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Brown, Rita Haywood, Darlene Spence and Kimberly Mayo of Virginia Beach, Deborah Baker and Nita Camara of Maryland; sons, William L. Sharp Jr. of Pennsylvania, Wayne Sharp of Illinois, Rodney D. Sharp, Charles S. Sharp, Kim Sharp of Virginia and Terrence E. Sharp of Maryland; 30 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Willie J. Norville

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Willie James Norville, 87, a native of Pitt County, died November 10, 2003, at Chesapeake General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Robert Earls. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.

Norville was a retired laborer and truck driver from Vico Construction after 35 years of service.

Survivors include a son, Willie James Norville Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa.; five sisters, Dollie Lee Lang of Farmville, Roberta Eatmon of Connecticut, Mattie Mae Williams of Windsor, Callie Marie Cook and Jeanette Saunders of Philadelphia; adopted children, Glyndell Griggs of Portsmouth and Allen McEachen of Havelock; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ralph J. Brown

AULANDER – Ralph Joseph Brown, 88, died November 12, 2003 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Charles Beverly

AHOSKIE – Charles Beverly, 64, died November 11, 2003, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Beverly was a truck driver for Perdue.

Survivors include a son, Markis Wilson of Greensboro; and a daughter, Laketrydra Miller of Greensboro; and two grandchildren.

Ramona G. Goode

AHOSKIE – Ramona Gray Goode, 75, of the 500 block of West Baker St., died November 11, 2003, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Goode was born in Pitt County and was a member of Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was retired as a news editor of the Roanoke Chowan News Herald.

Predeceased by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Gray and her brother, Kenneth Gray, Ramona leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Guerry Goode; her daughters, Mary Lyn Kelly and husband Clark of Virginia Beach, Susan Story and husband Jimmy of Franklin, Va.; a son, Joe Scott and wife Corky of Aynor, S.C.; a stepson, Guerry Goode, Jr. and wife Kathy of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Kim Goode of Durham, NC; a sister, Ann Ellis and husband Tommy of Ahoskie; a brother-in-law, Sanchez Goode and wife Ellie of St. Augustine, Fla.; and grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Brian, Jennifer Story of Franklin, Joseph Jernigan of Aulander, Michael Jernigan of Virginia Beach, Gray Scott of Aynor, Kevin Story of Boykins, Va., Tina Story of Courtland, Va., Theresa LeBlanc of Maine, Troy Lemue of North Berwick, Maine; six great-grandchildren; a host of wonderful nieces and nephews, a very special friend, Bea Jones of Ahoskie; and her wonderful dog, Sampson.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Garret Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Robert May. In lieu of flowers, Ramona’s wish was for donations to be made to the University Health Systems Hospice Care, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 1224, Franklin, VA 23851. The family will receive friends at the home.
