With one week remaining in the season, Hertford County (9-1) tops the Northeastern Coastal Conference with a 5-0 record.
The Bears, who have assured themselves of at least a share of the conference title, host Bertie Friday night with the chance to claim the championship outright.
Bertie, meanwhile, sits third in the NCC, up from their last-place standing three weeks ago.
The Falcons, 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the league, have already claimed the second-place spot among 3-A members of the league.
The only other area team in the upper tier of the league is Diego Hasty’s Northampton-West Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes, 6-3 overall, have a 2-2 conference mark, good enough for third place in the Tar-Roanoke Conference behind North Edgecombe and Louisburg.
The Roanoke-Chowan’s other area schools – Gates County and Northampton-East are both winless in their respective league.
Gates County (3-5) travels to Perquimans Friday to attempt to claim win one inside the Four Rivers Conference while East (0-8) host Franklinton hoping to secure their first win of the year.
