Ridgecroft hosts state quarterfinals

AHOSKIE – After being honored with one of the prestigious top-four seeds in the 2003 NCISAA State 1-A Soccer tournament, the Rams of Ridgecroft School will host a state tourney quarterfinal match-up at 4 p.m. here today (Tuesday).

Coach Dave Rowzie’s Rams (7-7-2 overall), seeded 4th in the 12-team tournament field, will entertain #5 Gaston Day School. Gaston Day advanced to today’s quarterfinal round by blanking #12 Victory Christian, 8-0, this past Friday.

With the exception of one, opening round match on Friday, all of the top-seeded teams advanced.

Sixth-seeded Rocky Mount Academy (7-7-2) defeated #11 Northwood Temple, 3-1. Rocky Mount advances to face #3 Waccamaw Academy (12-1-1) in today’s quarterfinals.

Village Christian Academy (13-5), seeded seventh, also advanced to the next round as they topped #10 Statesville Christian, 9-1, on Friday. Village Central now faces #2 Faith Christian School (12-2-3) in today’s quarterfinal round.

The only lower-seeded team to advance was #9 Wayne Country Day (2-15) who claimed a 7-0 shutout win on Friday at #8 Wayne Christian School (13-5). With the win, Wayne Country Day advances to meet top-seeded Greenfield School (14-9).
