Maggie Marie Wiggins

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Maggie Marie Wiggins, 80, a native of Hertford County, died October 2, 2003 at Sentara Bayside Hospital. She was the widow of Quinton Wiggins Sr.

A funeral was Wednesday in New Hope Baptist Church, 395 Old Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, by Dr. E. Ray Cox. Interment was in Roosevelt Memorial Park. P.G. Thomasson Funeral Services Inc. was in charge.

Survivors include four daughters, Vernell James and Juanita Parker, both of Virginia Beach, Myra Wiggins of Zebulon and Gwendolyn Wiggins of Pennsylvania; four sons, Quinton Wiggins Jr. of Portsmouth, Lonzell Wiggins of Virginia Beach, Dewitt Wiggins of Pennsylvania and Bernard Wiggins of Georgia; a sister, Ruby Staton of Ahoskie; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy F. Owens

SUFFOLK, Va. – Dorothy Mae Flood Owens, 70, a native of Ahoskie, died October 4, 2003 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was the widow of Lucious T. Owens Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Sixth Street Baptist Church by the Rev. James Williams. Burial will be in Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. The family will assemble at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the home of Rosa Boone for the procession. You may send condolences to the family by visiting www.vharrisfuneralhome.com. Mrs. Owens was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church, 324 Goodman St., Suffolk. She retired from Planters Peanuts and also worked for Suffolk Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Owens Gibson and Dorcus Brown Lawrence, both of Temple Hills, Md.; a son, Lucious T. “Tommy” Owens Jr.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Cora T. Rawls

CARRSVILLE, Va. – Cora T. Rawls, 77, a native of Como, died October 5, 2003 in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. She was the widow of Herbert N. Rawls Sr.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Pulaski Baptist Church, Carrsville, by Dr. Robert Rodgers. Interment will be in Duke Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is in charge.

She was a member of Pulaski Baptist Church, Carrsville, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Circle and was treasurer of the Deaconess Board.

Survivors include two daughters, Nadirah “Gwen” Rawls-Sharif of Carrsville and Sandra Mayfield of Suffolk; four sons, Herbert N. Rawls Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Melvin Rawls of Portsmouth, Ray Rawls of Trenton, N.J. and Terry Rawls of Carrsville; a brother, Roy Picott Jr. of Como; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Jane B. Riddick

HERTFORD – Jane Britton Riddick, 67, died October 6, 2003 in Chowan Hospital.

A celebration of Mrs. Riddick’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Evans Chapel with Father Tom Rickenbaker. Evans Funerals and Cremations of Edenton is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy W. Riddick; three daughters, Vicki Lassiter of Corapeake, Denise Bradshaw of Windsor, Va. and Adrienne Meads of Hertford; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Sheldon; two sons, Dane Britton and Percy Britton, both of Edenton; four sisters, Dora Mae Stillman, Doris Herman, Kay Smith, all of Edenton and Rachel Sadler of St. Augustine, Fla.; two brothers, Ned Yount of Edenton and Acie Lewis Yount of Granite Falls; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Easter A. Neal

ROCKY MOUNT – Easter Ann Neal, 90, died October 7, 2003, at South Village.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

Washington Benthall

AHOSKIE – Washington &uot;Sweet Pea&uot; Benthall, 66, a native of Hertford County, died October 5, 2003, at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday at Soul Saving Station, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Haywood Sessoms. Burial will be in Newsome Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Benthall was employed with the Town of Ahoskie.

Survivors include a son, George Jr. Powell of Durham; three daughters, Serena Dent, Rita Powell and Cathy Powell, all of Ahoskie; two brothers, James Benthall of Ahoskie and Robert Benthall of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Thelma Benthall, JoAnn Benthall Langford and Rosetta Benthall Faison, all of Ahoskie and Pearling Gatling of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
