RALEIGH – Lawrence Academy skipper Alan Spencer went into Monday night’s contest with St. David’s a little apprehensive.
The Warriors make the journey to Raleigh without eight players due to a combination of sickness and the effects of Hurricane Isabel. The team also had not practiced in six days due to the hurricane.
Spencer’s club quelled his fears quickly, however as they jumped out to huge lead en route to a 38-22 decision over St. David’s.
Quarterback Gabe White led the way for the Warriors, passing for one touchdown and picking up 115 yards on the ground in the first half.
The Warriors’ comfortable lead enabled Spencer to use a variety of players in the second half and rest most of his starters in preparation for what he hoped would be a showdown of unbeaten’s Friday night.
While both Lawrence and Halifax Academy extended their unbeaten marks on the season during Monday night contests, conditions at Merry Hill will not allow the two of them to meet on Friday.
The game, which was scheduled to be homecoming for the Warriors, will be rescheduled for later in the season.
