Iva E. James

AHOSKIE – Iva Elizabeth James, 89, a native of Hertford County, died September 5, 2003, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Richardson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Lorraine J. Stith of Durham, Carlise Davenport of Washington, D.C., and Lynell Eure of Ahoskie; one son, Samuel W. James of Silver Spring, Md.; four sisters, Ava C. Hall of Ahoskie, Alma Draine and Goldie Archer of Philadelphia and Jean Sullivan of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one brother, James Chavis of Ahoskie; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Jimmie H. Vaughan

MURFREESBORO – Jimmie H. Vaughan, 88, a native of Hertford County, died September 5, 2003, at Britthaven Nursing Home, Edenton.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton, by the Rev. Shirley Johnson.

Vaughan was a member of New Haven Baptist Church

Survivors include one daughter, Annie Frances Miles of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren.

Arthur J. Watford Sr.

COLERAIN – Arthur J. Watford Sr., 86, a native of Bertie County, died September 6, 2003, at Sentara Norfolk General.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at New Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. William Clark. Burial will be in the Watford family cemetery, Colerain. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Absoluta Watford; children, Arthur J. Watford Jr. of Aulander, Jerolean W. Moore of Hampton, Va., Faye W. Mitchell of Chesapeake and Sonja W. Mair of Smyrna, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Daniel W. Thompson

LEWISTON – Daniel W. Thompson, 64, died September 6, 2003 at Brian Center, Windsor.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Graham H. Hill Sr.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Graham Holmes Hill Sr., 88, a native of Gates County, died September 6, 2003 in Virginia Beach.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.

Hill retired from the wholesale grocery business after 41 years.

Survivors include his wife, Marie B. Hill; two sons, Carlton L. Hill of Virginia Beach and Graham H. Hill Jr. of Chesapeake; and two sisters, Norma Lee Vaughan of Texas and Evelyn Anderson of Mississippi.

Kathryn S. Hayes

GATES – Kathryn Smith Hayes, 87, died September 7, 2003, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Va.

Arrangements are incomplete at Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville.

Kevin Cofield Jr.

AULANDER – Kevin Rogers &uot;Baby Boy&uot; Cofield Jr., died September 5, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at the Lassiter family cemetery, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Johnnie Cofield. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, was in charge.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin R. Cofield Sr. and Tremaine L. Eure, both of Aulander; maternal grandparents, Phyllis and Elvis Eure, both of Aulander; paternal grandmother, Helen Cofield of Como; great-grandmother, Larcie Cofield of Winton; and maternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Eure of Gatesville.
