Edward L. Wilson

NORFOLK, Va. – Edward L. Wilson, 76, a native of Sussex County, died August 12, 2003, in Riverside Convalescent Center, Hampton.

A funeral was conducted Monday in Crocker Funeral Home Chapel, Suffolk, by the Rev. Melvin Lyttle. Interment was in Little Mount Zion Church Cemetery.

Wilson had retired from Hampton University as a custodian and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Sims of Newport News, Brenda Wilson of Ahoskie, and Ella Williams of New Jersey; three sons, James Wilson of Ahoskie, Edward Wilson Jr. of Hampton and John Wilson of Norfolk; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary A. Watson

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Mary A. Watson, 95, a native of Ahoskie, died August 12, 2003.

She was the widow of William Watson.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Fisher Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Addison. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk.

Mrs. Watson was a former member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Watson Pittman Jr.

SEABOARD – Watson Pittman Jr., 57, died August 9, 2003.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday at Full Gospel Church of Deliverance, Newport News. Poole’s Funeral Home, Surry, was in charge.

Marian S. Stolley

SUFFOLK, Va. – Marian Stallings Stolley, 71, a native of Hobbsville, died August 15, 2003.

A graveside was conducted Monday at Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Parr Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Suffolk Chapter, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.

Mrs. Stolley was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church in Hobbsville.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth M. Stolley; daughter, Robin M. Stolley of Hobbsville; and a son, William E. Stolley of Virginia Beach.

Bessie Thompson

WINDSOR – Bessie Thompson, 73, died August 16, 2003, at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Bernice L. Smith

ROANOKE RAPIDS -Bernice Long Smith, 83, a native of Northampton County, died August 14, 2003. She was the widow of Angus Smith.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Askew Funeral Services, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Elizabeth J. Edwards. Burial was in the Long family cemetery, Jackson.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church and was an educator having taught in Northampton County and Roanoke Rapids City Schools, where she retired from.

Survivors include two nieces and a nephew.

Rosa L. Boone

CORAPEAKE – Rosa Lee Boone, 84, a native of Gates County, died August 15, 2003.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Claude Odom. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include one sister, Fannie Evans of Suffolk, Va.; and two brothers, Solomon Norman of Corapeake and James Norman of Suffolk; and seven grandchildren.

Archie Green

WINTON – Archie Green, died August 15, 2003, at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Bethany Baptist Church, Harrellsville, by the Rev. William C. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Lovely Green; one son, Ernest Green of Winton; one sister, Ezzie Dora Perry of Powellsville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
