Joseph C. Greene

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Joseph Cleveland Greene, 45, died June 18, 2003.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cool Spring Baptist Church, Gaston. Interment will be in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Virginia P. Sharpe

NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia Paige Sharpe, 83, a native of Potecasi, died June 18, 2003, in a local hospital. She was the widow of James C. Sharpe.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Pullen. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park.

Sharpe retired from Versprille Hair Design as a hairdresser. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Norfolk.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra A. Norton of Williamsburg; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Rebecca B. Flesher

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Rebecca Branton Flesher, a native of Corapeake, died June 19, 2003, in Suffolk. She was the widow of James H. &uot;Jim&uot; Flesher Jr.

A service was conducted on Monday at Port Norfolk Baptist Church by the Rev. Terry Taylor and Dr. Ector Hamrick. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Donations to the church or one’s favorite charity in Becky’s name are gratefully appreciated. Loving Funeral Home, was in charge.

Mrs. Flesher was a retired nurse. She was a member Esther Sunday School Class at Port Norfolk Baptist.

Survivors include her sons, Tom and Martin; and a sister, Mary Edith Powell.

Vinnie Overton

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Vinnie Overton, 75, a native of Bertie County, died June 20, 2003.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Riverside Memorial Park by Keith Lewis. Graham Funeral Home was in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Overton; a daughter, Eva Strain of Portsmouth; a son, William Overton of Chesapeake; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Dennis R. Carter

COMO – Dennis Randolph Carter, 53, died June 21, 2003.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie.

Loretta A. Evans

AHOSKIE – Loretta Ann Evans, 90, a native of West Babylon, NY, died June 23, 2003 at her residence.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Garrett Funeral Home.

Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and a member of New Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra Evans of Ahoskie and Kay Lagnese of Plainview, N.Y.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
