Joyce W. Williams
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Joyce White Williams, 68, a native of Norfolk, died June 14, 2003, in a local hospital.
A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Snellings Funeral Home by the Rev. Cecil Wicker. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Williams was a department store manager for ladies lingerie at Wal-Mart. She was a graduate of Churchland High School.
Survivors include her husband, Elbert F. &uot;Doc&uot; Williams; a daughter, Kathy McChesney of Virginia Beach; a son, Richard F. Williams of Saulsburg; two sisters, Barbara Bass Laughbaum of Winton and Charlotte Jones of Chesapeake; a brother, John L. &uot;Pete&uot; White of Gladstone; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Alice F. Edwards
POTECASI – Alice F. Edwards, 88, a native of Ante, Va., died June 15, 2003, in Severn.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Severn by the Rev. Elisha Barnes. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her spouse, the Rev. Sherley Edwards; children, James P. Hardy of Baltimore, Md., Henry J. Alston of Severn, Robert E. Lee Jr. of Asheville, Dr. Ola Gathers of Severn, Mamie Lewis of Orlando, Fla., Sharon Lee of Jackson and Vera C. Walter of Pendleton; a sister Geraldine Moore of Severn; two stepdaughters, Blanche Edwards of New York, N.Y., and Elnora Massey of Sunrise, Fla.; two stepsons, Wendell Edwards of Potecasi and Thomas Edwards of Durham; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Walter Watford
AHOSKIE – Walter Watford, 66, a native of Hertford County, died June 16, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Watford was a retired farmer. He was a member of Ashland Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Zenora Watford; four daughters, Gloria Wadsworth of Edenton, Barbara Eley and Patricia Watford, both of Ahoskie and Joyce M. Montique of Hampton, Va.; three sons, David L. Watford of Ahoskie, Larry D. Watford of Lewiston and George E. Watford of Greenville, S.C.; six sisters, Margaret Moorings of Norfolk, Shirley Paramore, Teresa Chatman and Ollie Morris, all of Connecticut, Mary Johnson of Merry Hill and Queen Miller of New York; one brother, Melvin Watford of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Charlie F. Gray Jr.
PENDLETON – Charlie Fenton Gray Jr., 72, died June 15, 2003 at the Autumn Care Nursing Home, Rich Square.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service by the Rev. Willie McLawhorn. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Gray retired from the U.S. Armed Forces serving his career with the Army. He also retired from the Civil Service in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Gray; three sisters, Debra Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas, Marie Dubois of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Janie Bradley of Aulander; and three brothers, Bill Gray of Conway, James and Timmy Gray of Windsor.
Robert Walton Jr.
KELFORD – Robert Walton Jr., 86, a native of Bertie County, died June 13, 2003, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at First Baptist Church Kelford by the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell. Burial will be in the Walton family cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.
Walton was a retired maintenance worker for North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was co-owner and operator of Village Hideaway Night Club and a member of First Baptist Church Kelford.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Powell Walton; a son, Donald Powell of Kelford; a brother, Napoleon Walton of Washington, D.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 grandchildren.
