Lillie K. Seymore
SUNBURY – Lillie Knight Seymore, died June 27, 2003, in Rocky Mount.
Family and friends celebrated her life Wednesday at New Middle Swamp Baptist Church, Corapeake. Burial was in St. John AME Zion Church Cemetery, Sunbury. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, was in charge.
Mrs. Seymore taught in Gates County Public Schools for more than 30 years. She was an active member of New Middle Swamp Baptist Church, Corapeake; the Happy Golden Club; the Rosa B. Riddick Alumni Chapter of ECSU; the Golden Rod Subordinent Tent; the Royal Degree Circle; and the Gates County Unit of the North Carolina Retired School Teachers.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula S. Jones of Rocky Mount; and seven grandchildren.
Mabel P. Knox
ROANOKE RAPIDS – Mabel P. Knox, 71, died June 28, 2003.
A funeral was conducted Tuesday at Margarettsville Baptist Church. Burial was in family cemetery. Hockaday Funeral Home was in charge.
Kales A. Turner
WELDON – Kales Assata Turner, infant, died June 27, 2003, at Duke University Hospital, Durham.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at
H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Canton Davis. Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Weldon.
William T. Sanderlin
WINDSOR – William Thomas Sanderlin, 86, formerly of Windsor, died July 1, 2003, at the VA Atlanta Medical Hospital.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Edgewood Cemetery the Rev. Clifton Dunning. The family will received friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home and other times from the home of Gayle Russell, 432 US 13 North, Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to University Hospital Hospice, PO Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
Sanderlin was a retired millwright with Weyerhaeuser Company. He was a member of Greens Cross Baptist Church and served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Woods Sanderlin of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three daughters, Gayle S. Russell of Windsor, Jean S. Sapp of Southport, Fla., and Joy S. Demofonte of Windsor; three sons, Russell Sanderlin of Charlotte, Larry Sanderlin of Windsor and Wayne Sanderlin of Edenton; two stepsons, Bobby Woods of Atlanta and Billy Woods of Vildalia; four stepsisters, Ruth Williams of Atlanta, Hattie White of Windsor, Sue Whitaker of St. Louis, Mo., and Thelma Matthews of Kempsville, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Roger L. Ambrose
SMITHFIELD, Va. – Roger Lee Ambrose, 64, a native of Chowan County, died June 30, 2003, at Obici Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home by Rev. Cameron Currin.. Interment will be in Eureka Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Virginia Beach, VA 23452-1144.
Ambrose was a retired foreman from Nansemond Pre-Cast.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Ashley Harrell of Smithfield; daughters, Joyce A. Lassiter of Suffolk, Nancy A. Chappell of Gloucester and Janet A. Stallings of Hobbsville; sister, Elizabeth Whitfield of Windsor; brothers, Hubert Ambrose and Gene Ambrose, both of Corapeake and Wesley Ambrose of Suffolk; and three grandchildren.
L. Paige English
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Linda Paige English, 57, a native of Boykins, died June 29, 2003 at her residence.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, with the Rev. Kenneth Williams. Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, is in charge.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Fulmer of Oregon and Donna Zofcin of Virginia Beach; a son, Steve English of Mississippi; two sisters, Jean Sawyer of Milwaukee and Frances Porter of Boykins; and two grandchildren.
Linwood Lewis
COMO – Linwood Lewis, died June 30, 2003, at Twin Oaks Rest Home, Como.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by the Rev. Robert Richardson. Burial will be in the Lewis family cemetery, Murfreesboro. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Lewis was a member of First Baptist Church Murfreesboro.
Survivors include one brother, Rudolph Lewis of Murfreesboro; and one sister, Vivian Lewis of Murfreesboro.
Collis F. Taylor
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Collis Fentress Taylor, a native of South Mills, died June 30, 2003 at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph E. Thompson. A viewing will be conducted from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
Taylor was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, South Mills.
Survivors include four daughters, Avis C. Taylor of Upper Marlboro, Md., Collisa R. Baxter of Virginia Beach, Gayle David of Greenbelt and Patrice Spellman of Maryland; a son, Cornelius Paxton of South Mills; three sisters, Delores Hines of Elizabeth City, Faye Slade of Temple Hills and Constance Harris of Upper Marlboro; one brother, Huntser Manley of South Mills; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
