AHOSKIE, NC – Mr. Joseph Edward Harrell, Jr., age 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 12, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Harrell was born on June 8, 1947 to Joseph, Sr. and Idell Farmer Harrell in Hertford County, NC. Joe was a store owner and manager of the local hardware “Eddie Harrells Auto & Sports Store” most of his life. He always said he started his career at the age of three before retiring in December, 2013. Joe was honored to receive a gold hammer for his sixty years of dedicated service at the store and to the community. He enjoyed traveling with the love of his life in their camper, getting to see many sights. Joe was a true family man and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by father, Joseph Edward Harrell, Sr.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Billie; mother, Idell Farmer Harrell; two daughters, Billie Joe Harrell and husband Michael, and Bobbie Joe Harrell Lindsay and husband Robert; son, Joseph Edward Harrell III and wife Rochelle; three grandsons, Miles Hunter Harrell, Jordan Michael Harrell, and Carson Robert Lindsay; two granddaughters, Mary-Joe Harrell and Caroline Grace Lindsay; five sisters, Joan Holland, Ellen Brake and husband Robert, Jewel Harrell, Joy Harrell and husband Drap, Gay Eason and husband Johnny; brother, Jerry Harrell and wife Belinda; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev Greg Hurdle, officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Khoury, Dr. Almario, Ms. Mildred Lassiter, Ms. Valerie Lassiter, Alta Blowe and to all the hospice nurses that took such great care of Joe and his family during their time of need.
