Donald W. Vinson

WINTON – Donald Wayne Vinson, age 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Vinson was born in Suffolk, VA, on August 5, 1947, a son of the late Woodrow Ellis, Sr. and Lucille Cooke Vinson.  He was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and was retired as a salesperson for R. W. Moore Equipment Company and for the last 20 years had enjoyed working part time at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie. Don was a past member of Winton Volunteer Fire Department. Don was on avid outdoorsman, enjoying golfing, and riding his motorcycle, but his biggest enjoyment was being with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Judith Harrell Vinson; his daughters, Lisa Vinson Pope of Winton, and Christy Vinson Hodges and husband, Tim, of Como; his brother, Woodrow E. Vinson, Jr. and wife, Kay, of Hampstead; and his grandchildren, Sara Hodges and Zach Hodges of Como.

In accordance with Don’s wishes, a private graveside memorial service will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens.  The family invites friends to join them at their home. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
