AHOSKIE – John Locke Mitchell, age 86 of Ahoskie, passed away November 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

John was born September 4, 1927 in Hertford County North Carolina, the son of the late George Locke Mitchell and Gladys Jernigan Clements. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Mitchell; his brother, Bob Mitchell; his daughter, Mariam Connor; and grandson, Brandon Mitchell.

John was an Army Veteran of twenty nine years, a Korean War Veteran and Viet Nam Veteran.

Survivors include his two sons, Randall Mitchell of Greenville, and Gene Mitchell (Patty) of Roxobel; his daughter Ann Blake (John) of Charlotte; his three grandchildren, Courtney Mitchell, Sheri Lassiter, and Jennifer Brock; and his four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 15, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Sandy Run Baptist Church in Roxobel, with the Rev. Dave Rimel officiating. Burial will follow in Harrellsville Cemetery with full Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Gene and Patty Mitchell, 307 Pecan Street, Roxobel, NC.
