FRANKLIN, VA – George Bryan Lupton was born September 25, 1934 to the late Sherman Alexander and Lizzie Dean Lupton of Lowland, NC. He departed this world on Sunday, September 1, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

He was a longtime resident of Franklin, VA, where he was retired from his many business ventures. He was predeceased by one son, Steven Scott Toler; and two brothers, Sherman Howard Lupton and Roman Keith Lupton.

George was a veteran of the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Rochester; and a member of VFW Post 4411 and Gates County Hunt Club. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Franklin and was devoted to his church and his Savior where there was no task too menial or monumental.  In his congregation, George served on the vestry and was truly the guardian of the church’s property. Most importantly, day by day, he was faithful in prayer, scripture study and devotions with humility and gentleness. The Bible says that Moses was the most humble man on the face of the earth, but George was a close second with his quiet steady faith and huge heart for service.

George joined the Franklin Masonic Lodge #151 A.F.&A.M. in 1960 and enjoyed the fellowship of Freemasonry for 53 years; receiving his 50 year membership in 2010.  He was also a Shriner, belonging to the Khedive Shriners in Chesapeake, VA and also a member of the Franklin Shrine Club. George was a 32nd degree mason, joining the Southampton Scottish Rite Association as a charter member in 1968 and serving as Vice President that same year.  He served as President in 1969.

George is survived by his wife, Hannah Toler Lupton; two sons, Roy Lupton and wife, Sherri, and Calvin Toler and wife, Paula; three daughters, Lori L. Lambdin, Rachel L. Blankenship and husband Johnnie, and Jewel T. Johnson and husband, Mickey; two brothers, Charlie Lupton of Franklin, VA and Vernon Lupton of Oak Harbor, WA; and a sister-in-law, Beth Lupton. Children were his passion and George was the proud grandfather to Daniel Lupton, Ryan Lupton, Rebecca Lupton Stokes, Will Lambdin, Grace Blankenship, Cal Toler, Amy Johnson and Katie Johnson; and a great-grandfather to Calvin and Sydney Toler.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Franklin, VA with a reception immediately following in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
