MURFREESBORO – Georgia Johnson Burgess, 79, left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on May 10, 2013 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

She was born February 7, 1934 to parents Luther T. and Georgia F. Johnson and was a caregiver employed with Pine Forest Nursing Home and Roanoke-Chowan Hospital until February 1, 1996.

As a member of Meherrin Baptist Church she enjoyed the church life and activities while she was able, to include singing in the church choir, and she cherished the friendship of a very special little girl, Rachel Bennett.

Georgia had been preceded in death by her husband, C. B. Burgess, Jr.; a sister, Geneva Barrow, and a brother, Glenn Johnson; and leaves behind two sons, Billy Burgess (Theresa) of Como, and Joey Burgess of Murfreesboro; four sisters, Alta (Shorty) Lane, Mildred Brown (Brandt), Pearl Daniels (John) and Mary Ledden (Charlie); and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Johnson, all of Murfreesboro;  a cousin, Dare Jones of Orange Park, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Meherrin Baptist Church, 519 Meherrin Ave., Murfreesboro, with the Rev. Josh Parsons and the Rev. David Ross presiding. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.
