EURE — Traffic on one Gates County road will soon be interrupted due to the ongoing widening project on US 13/158.

NCDOT officials announced that the project contractor will temporarily close Barfield Road (SR 1128) at its southernmost intersection with US 13 (near Dave’s Place) beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 6.

According to Scott Emory, District Field Engineer with the DOT Division 1 office in Ahoskie, the closure is necessary in order to construct the new tie-in of Barfield Road with the proposed northbound lanes of US 13. Emory said the actual closure point of Barfield Road will be approximately 300 feet east of the existing US 13.

Detour signs will direct traffic around the work zone. Motorists can use the remaining open portion of Barfield Road and NC 137 as the detour route.

The US 13/158 project, which began last year, will widen the road from two to four lanes between Winton and Tar Heel BBQ.
