MURFREESBORO – Warren “Cotton” Sexton Sr., 83, died Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

A native of Ashe County, he was a retired faculty member in the Social Science Department of Chowan University in Murfreesboro.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol Smith Sexton of their home in Murfreesboro; one daughter, Jean Sexton of Red Springs; one son, Warren Sexton, Jr. and his wife, Rinnah of Greensboro:  two grandsons, Chris and Mark of Greensboro; four brothers, Grant Sexton of Wilmington, Delaware, Herbert Sexton and Tom Sexton of Lansing, and Curtis Sexton of Ronda; sister-in-law, Barbara Sexton of North East, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorial gifts be given to Chowan University Hawks Haven, One University Place, Murfreesboro, North Carolina 27855.

Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway was in charge of arrangements.
