AULANDER – Officials with The Place of Possibilities plan to rebuild following a fire on June 29 that gutted the building located on Hexlena Road.

Despite losing nearly everything in the fire, the Rev. Dr. Laura Early says you have to “believe” that the outreach ministry will continue its work. Contributed Photo
The Place of Possibilities, a 501-c-3 non-profit organization, is an extension ministry of All God’s Children United Methodist Church in Aulander. It offers food distribution, daycare, camps, senior citizen meetings, dance classes (Dance with Joy), church services, a thrift store, and many other programs to the surrounding communities.
The Rev. Dr. Laura Early, who serves as the CEO of The Place of Possibilities, said the fire caused extensive damage.
“Just as fire tempers steel, let your spirit be strengthened by adversity,” Early stated. “We have contacted our insurance company and are in the early stages of rebuilding to serve our community with faith and compassion.”
According to Joy Early, who works at The Place of Possibilities, the fire sent plumes of smoke into the air. Several local fire departments and first responders rushed to the scene.
“Thankfully, no one was injured. The fire destroyed most everything, but the steel structure remains strong,” Joy Early stated.
The cause of the fire was electrical in nature, Joy Early noted.
The Place of Possibilities will continue to offer food distribution from 9-10 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month in the building’s parking lot.
Recently, the organization purchased and blessed a cargo van designed to reach communities with great need. They call it Holy C.O.W. (Church On Wheels). That vehicle will continue to be used to distribute food, toiletries, and household items.
Rev. Dr. Early thanked all the firefighters, first responders, and the community that gathered to offer support and encouragement during this tragic event.
