Independence Day celebrations slated

Celebrations for our country’s Independence Day will be marked with fireworks and fun throughout the Roanoke-Chowan area this year.
The events kick off on Thursday, July 3 with the Freedom Fireworks Display at the Roanoke Cashie River Center in Windsor, sponsored by the Town of Windsor and the Windsor Bertie Chamber of Commerce.
Vendors start at 5 p.m. and fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:20 p.m.
The Mighty Saints of Soul will be performing beach music, and food vendors include Y’all Eat Yet, G’s Grill, Tunnel of Love and Snotime.
Bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the show along the banks of the Cashie River.
Northampton County’s Fireworks and Festivities will be held from 5-10 p.m. on Friday, July 4 on the grounds at the Cultural and Wellness Center, located on NC 305 just north of Jackson.
The event will feature live music from Chocolate Chip & Company Band, and Jay Jenkins will serve as Emcee. Fireworks are scheduled to begin shortly after 9 p.m.
Food vendors will be onsite selling a variety of sweet and savory treats including fish plates, barbecue, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken phillys, funnel cakes, fried oreos, ice cream, Italian ice, and more.
The annual event is co-sponsored by the Northampton County Chamber of Commerce, Northampton County Tourism, Northampton County Government, and Northampton County Municipalities.

The Hertford County Board of Commissioners will sponsor a Community July 4th Celebration from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4 on the grounds of the county courthouse, 115 Justice Drive, Winton. The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at dusk.
The event will also feature a bounce house, dancing, face painting, food trucks, games, music, a soft play area, vendors, and more.

The Town of Ahoskie’s annual 4th of July celebration, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Saturday, July 5.
An update sent Tuesday to this newspaper from Town of Ahoskie officials notes that the festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hertford County High School. The fireworks display is scheduled to start at dusk.
