New assistant principal and athletic director named at HC Middle School

WINTON – The Hertford County Board of Education announces the appointment of Shea Johnson as the new Assistant Principal of Hertford County Middle School and Aaron Palmer as the school’s Athletic Director.

Shea Johnson
Johnson, a graduate of Hertford County High School, returns home as an educational leader. With over a decade of experience, he has taught middle-grade history, mentored students, and coached basketball. He holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision.
Johnson said he is deeply passionate about fostering a positive school culture, supporting staff, and building strong relationships with students, families, and the broader community. His collaborative leadership style is rooted in equity, academic excellence, and the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed.
Palmer, a 2005 graduate of Hertford County High School and native of Union, brings over 11 years of experience in education and coaching. He earned his degree in Physical Education and Sports Management from Elizabeth City State University in 2009.
Palmer began his career in 2013 as a PE teacher and coach in Northampton County Schools before joining Hertford County Public Schools in 2015. He has served as a teacher at Ahoskie Elementary School and has coached multiple sports at Hertford County Middle School and Hertford County High School.
His believes his commitment to mentoring students and athletes has helped foster growth, discipline, and teamwork both on and off the field.

Pratt, Superintendent of Hertford County Public Schools. “We eagerly anticipate the meaningful contributions they will make together.”
