Grants awarded to organizations serving Bertie, Hertford counties

The Bertie-Hertford Community Foundation and the Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund, both part of the North Carolina Community Foundation, have awarded $12,270 in grants to five organizations supporting the local community.
The board of advisors for BHCF granted $6,100 to the following organizations from their community grantmaking fund:
$600 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Bertie-Hertford Childhood Cancer Safety Net
$1,500 to the Dream Hunt & Fishing Program for outdoor adventure and environmental camps
$1,000 to Food Bank of the Albemarle for feeding the hungry in Bertie and Hertford counties
$1,000 to Legal Aid of North Carolina, Inc. for support of Bertie and Hertford County residents in need of civil legal assistance
$1,000 to Prevent Blindness North Carolina for Bertie and Hertford county vision screening program
$1,000 to Special Olympics North Carolina for Special Olympics North Carolina Bertie/Hertford
The Women’s Fund granted $6,170 to the following organizations:
$1,500 to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas for Bertie-Hertford Childhood Cancer Safety Net
$1,500 to the Dream Hunt & Fishing Program for outdoor adventure and environmental camps
$1,500 to the Good Shepherd Food Pantry of Bertie County, NC, Inc., for fresh fruits, vegetables and juice
$500 to the North Carolina Symphony for music discovery for Bertie or Hertford County preschoolers
$1,500 to The Gathering Place for general operating support
$500 to the North Carolina Symphony
Advisory board members live and work in Bertie or Hertford counties, positioning them to strategically leverage resources, meet local needs and access opportunities. Board members include Jordan Harrell (president), Laura Beasley (vice president), Leslie Lawrence (secretary/treasurer), Dr. Linda Alexander, Takiya Lewis Blalock, Nayland Collier, Austine Evans, Guy Holley, Cecelia Jones, Penny Rose, John Tayloe and Lisa Turner.

The Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund leverages the power of collective giving through a local network that supports the community in a purposeful way and is designed to maximize women’s leadership in philanthropy by engaging and educating its membership and increasing charitable contributions. The Women’s Fund is led by Claudia Griffin (president) and Austine Evans (vice president) and welcomes members as well as donations through sponsorships and general contributions.
