MURFREESBORO – A strong storm passed through Murfreesboro on Thursday night, June 19, but didn’t cause any substantial damage.

Murfreesboro Police Chief David Griffith told the News Herald that he couldn’t confirm if a tornado had been associated with the storm, but that heavy rain and winds did impact power throughout the town.

“There were many trees that fell,” he reported. “Public Works and other utility companies worked tirelessly through the night to move debris and get things back to normal.”

Griffith said they had not received any reports of injuries or any significant damage to houses.

Hertford County Emergency Management Director Patrick Dilday said there were over 1,000 power outages Thursday night, the majority in the Murfreesboro area. He said that number had fallen to below 400 outages as of 12 noon on Friday as Dominion Energy crews continued to work making repairs and restoring power.

Over in Northampton County, Fire Marshal Chris Collier said the storm caused multiple trees to fall, which impacted power lines and blocked several roads. He added that the majority of that occurred in the western end of the county.

“Fortunately, there were no structural damages or personal injuries,” Collier told the News-Herald on Friday morning.
