GATESVILLE – A local man previously arrested for larceny is again charged for the same crime.
Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell said that on June 5, his office was contacted regarding a larceny that had taken place at the Dollar General on US 13 North in Gates. The suspect’s vehicle was seen fleeing the scene on NC 37. Gates County deputies made a vehicle stop in the town limits of Gatesville.
Campbell said that through investigation, it was determined that Burt Jones was responsible for the larceny as well as being a convicted felon. When attempting to take Jones in to custody, Campbell said Jones became resistive and had to be assisted into custody.
Jones has been charged with felony habitual larceny, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
Additional charges were for driving while license revoked, fictitious registration plate, no liability insurance, and expired registration.
“We encourage you all to report any criminal activity you see. Remember, if you see something, say something,” Campbell said.
