HARRELLSVILLE – Neal Thomas Britt, of Hertford County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on July 17, 1958, in Hertford County, he spent his entire life contributing to and enriching the community that he loved.
A man of the soil, Neal began his working years as a farmer, cultivating both crops and values that would serve him throughout his life. For over 25 years, he owned and operated Britt Fence Co., providing not just fences, but strength and security to countless families and businesses. Neal Britt will be remembered for his steadfastness, generosity, and the warmth he brought to the lives of his family and friends. May his spirit find peace in the enduring harmony of the land he so dearly cherished.
Neal was a man of deep passions and simple joys. Deer hunting was a pursuit he cherished, finding camaraderie and solitude alike within the woods. He was a longtime member of the Chinquapin Hunting Club, where he formed many lasting friendships. Neal also took great pleasure in fishing at Ocracoke, enjoying the peace and bounty of nature’s waters. His green thumb flourished in gardening, where he found patience and pride in nurturing life from the earth. Above all else, his favorite moments were those spent with his precious grandbabies, Auden and Ellie Matthews, who brought boundless joy to his days.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Wade Britt and Ethelyn Miller Britt; his daughter, Chassity Britt; brother, Ricky Britt; and brother-in-law, Jeffrey Blanton.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Donna Blanton Britt; his loving daughter, Brittney Matthews, and her husband Frankie of Murfreesboro, NC; his dear grandchildren, Auden and Ellie Matthews; his sister, Charlotte Britt Mizelle, and her husband Billy of Harrellsville, NC; his brother, Perry Wade Britt, and his wife Martha of Albany, NY; sisters-in-law, Jerri Lynn Britt of Harrellsville, NC; Barbara Outland, and her husband Freddie of Woodland, NC, Lisa Echerd, and her husband Glenn of Roanoke Rapids; brother-in-law, Johnnie Blanton; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews: Erica, Brian, Wade, Lee, Joel, Vickie, Brad, and McKayla; along with cherished great nieces and nephews: Dixon, Wiley, Macie, Aiden, Landon, Wade, Alexis, and Ashlyn. Also surviving are many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Harrellsville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Harrellsville, NC, from 1-2 p.m. A celebration of Neal’s life will begin at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary, officiated by Dr. Jeff Crabtree. A private burial will follow the service.
