CONWAY – Faye Lee Vinson, cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on January 23, 1940, in Davidson County, North Carolina, and spent her final days at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bertie County, North Carolina.
Faye led a life dedicated to service and family. As a committed homemaker, she was the heart and soul of her family, always ensuring that their needs were met with love and care. Her generosity extended beyond her household, as she often provided meals to those in need, earning the affectionate moniker “Meals on Wheels” by many in her community.
A graduate of Ahoskie High School, Faye pursued her passion for Home Economics at Meredith College, which laid the foundation for her lifelong interests in cooking, sewing, and homemaking. She was renowned for her culinary skill, particularly her famous silver dollar ham biscuits, which delighted all who had the privilege of tasting them.
Faye shared a true partnership with her husband, James Vinson, Jr., whom she met at a church social. Their marriage of 65 years was blessed with deep love and companionship. They enjoyed gardening together and treasured the bountiful harvest they shared with friends and family. Their second home in the Outer Banks (OBX) became a cherished retreat, where they formed lifelong friendships.
A woman of faith, Faye was a devoted member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and also attended Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church with James. Her commitment to her faith, was evident through her various service roles, including Sunday School Teacher, GA Leader, and Vacation Bible School instructor.
Faye’s life was also marked by her civic engagement, serving on the Board of Elections in Northampton County for many years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing cards with friends, particularly Bridge, and was passionate about collecting different china patterns and cookbooks. Faye Lee Vinson leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will be treasured forever by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Watkins Lee and Joel Tyrus Lee, and her brother, Jerry Tyrus Lee. Her loving spirit will be carried on by her surviving family: her devoted husband, James; her children, Deborah Britt of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Lee Vinson of Baltimore, MD, and Joel Vinson of Conway, NC; her grandchildren, Frankie Britt (Ashlee) of Bethlehem, PA, Ashley Kemp (Darren) of York, PA, Meredith Brown (Tommy) of Fort Wayne, IN, Peyton Mae Vinson, and Garrett Logan Vinson, both of Greenville, NC; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lyla, Reese, Layla, Sawyer Faye, Remington and Ellie, Noah, Bexley, and Collins, along with many cousins, extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, 314 West Main Street, Murfreesboro, NC 27855. A celebration of Faye’s life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Ken Baker and Pastor Eric Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
