WINDSOR – A 34-year-old woman from Nash County was arrested near here Sunday morning after drugs and stolen items were located inside her vehicle.
Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin identified the woman as Morgan Leanne Haskins of Battlesboro. She was charged with felony possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of stolen property. Haskins was also served with an outstanding arrest warrant out of Nash County.
She was processed and confined into Bertie/Martin Regional Jail.
The arrest came after Bertie Sheriff’s Deputy J. Jenkins was patrolling in the area of Highway 13 near White Oak Road, north of Windsor, at around 10:44 a.m. It was at that location where Jenkins spotted a vehicle in the roadside ditch.
Deputy Jenkins made contact with the driver and while talking to her, he was notified by Bertie 911 Dispatch that she was wanted out of Nash County for one count of larceny. Jenkins then placed Haskins into custody.
Her vehicle was then removed from the ditch by a local tow company. Afterwards, upon looking inside, Jenkins noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view. With the assistance of Sergeant M. Lawrence, Sergeant J. Mizzelle, and K9 Slash of the Windsor Police Department, they located heroin, drug paraphernalia, and stolen property inside the vehicle
