MURFREESBORO – Thomas Herbert Caulkins, 96, died on Friday, May 16, 2025 at his home in Murfreesboro, NC. He was born on June 27, 1928 in Factoryville, Pennsylvania. He was one of four sons of the Rev. Charles Whitney Caulkins and Mrs. Eunice Field Caulkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Charles Whitney Caulkins, Jr, Stanley Field Caulkins, and Roger Williams Caulkins. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Ann Baird Caulkins; his two daughters: Charlene Eason and her husband Jimmy and Bonnie Revelle and her husband Chuck, all of Murfreesboro; his four grandchildren: Thomas Revelle and his wife Rachael of Chapel Hill, NC, Whitney Eibl and her husband Patrick of Durham, NC, Rachel Revelle Chang and her husband Shu of Colorado Springs, CO, and Emily Revelle of Boston, MA; and his seven great-grandchildren: Joseph Eibl, Judah Revelle, Madeline Eibl, Theodore (Teddy) Chang, Benjamin (Benji) Chang, James Revelle, and Arthur Chang.
He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1949 and then received a Master’s of Social Work from Richmond Professional Institute, a division of William and Mary in 1951 and then a Bachelor of Divinity from Crozer Theological Seminary in 1954.
Rev. Caulkins served as the pastor of four churches: Branchville Baptist Church in Branchville, VA from 1954 – 1958, Clover Baptist Church in Clover, VA from 1958 – 1963, Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Goldsboro, NC from 1963 – 1968 and Murfreesboro Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, NC from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. He also taught as an adjunct professor in the Religion Department at Chowan University in the 1970’s. After retirement, Tom served as an interim pastor at eleven churches in Northeastern NC and Southeastern, VA.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Murfreesboro Baptist Church with the Reverends Mark Gaskins and Dennis Bazemore presiding. A reception and visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
