The 200-hour course, led by Dr. Stacy Simmons, RN, combined online instruction with in-person learning, including hands-on clinical rotations at local pharmacies. This hybrid approach provided students with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing them to take national Pharmacy Technician certification exam and to support licensed pharmacists in various settings.
“The students participated in clinical rotations at some of our local pharmacies to get hands-on experience. We appreciate the community’s support and commitment to help grow the students of R-CCC,” said Simmons.
In a significant advancement, R-CCC’s Pharmacy Technician program has been recognized as a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Recognized Education/Training Program. This designation affirms the program’s commitment to providing foundational knowledge essential for success on PTCB exams and aligns with national standards for pharmacy technician education.
R-CCC President Dr. Murray J. Williams praised the program’s innovative approach and its impact on workforce development.
“This hybrid pharmacy technician course is a wonderful example of R-CCC connecting our community to great careers. We are excited about the direction of our allied health training options for the future,” stated Dr. Williams.
According to data from Indeed, certified pharmacy technicians in North Carolina earn an average base salary of nearly $50,000—a promising outlook for these newly trained professionals.
