AULANDER – The Place of Possibilities’ stage came alive with rhythm, emotion, and talent on May 3 as dancers from Dance with Joy performed in a highly anticipated dance recital that drew a full house of supporters.

Dance with Joy is a dance program held at The Place of Possibilities, a non-profit organization in Bertie County. Dance classes are held during the school year and are taught by Joy Early. She holds a bachelor’s degree in dance from East Carolina University, and has been teaching dance for 21 years.

The Dance with Joy Recital showcased a range of dance styles – from ballet and tap to hip-hop and jazz – demonstrating the dancers versatility and months of dedicated practice. The age range of the dancers varied from 5 to 17 years old. Each dancer smiled as they danced in their sparkly costumes, entertaining the audience with movement and passion.

“I am so proud of the dancers, they really did their best at today’s show,” said Early.

Shirly Williams, a parent of a dancer stated, “We love the Dance with Joy program. Mrs. Joy worked diligently with each child, making sure each dancer succeeded. Dance with Joy has improved my child’s confidence, focus, and determination. My daughter, Eniyah, says Dance with Joy makes her feel really good about herself, and it gives her the opportunity to express herself through dance.”

The finale of the show allowed dancers to take their final bow, as audience members stood and cheered. Each performer received an engraved medal from Early for their hard work, and a bag of goodies from the Place of Possibilities’ CEO, Rev. Dr. Laura Early.

For many families and friends in attendance, the evening was more than just a show – it was a celebration of diversity, creativity, and community.
