JACKSON – Northampton County citizens should expect to receive their water bills later than usual this month.

Because of the delay, however, they will not be charged any late fees when paying their bill. Customers are usually assessed a late fee if paying after the 14th of each month.

County Manager Julian Phillips confirmed to the News Herald that the problem is with the company contracted to mail out the bills. They had the same delay with the bills in April as well.

He said the billing company is Professional Mail Services Inc. based out of Durham.

“They have not provided specifics about their internal issues,” Phillips said.

But Phillips also stated that Northampton is not the only county being affected. He also named Warren County, Halifax County, Orange County, Harnett County, and Elizabeth City as just a few other examples of places experiencing delayed billing.

“We are currently receiving quotes from new billing companies, as we are on a month-to-month contract basis with the current billing company,” he reported.

He advised citizens to check the Northampton County Public Works Facebook page for updates and other information.
