LEWISTON WOODVILLE – Food Banks throughout the United States are facing shortages of grant funding and program cuts from the federal level.
One such local organization – Food Bank of the Albemarle – services northeastern North Carolina, including the counties of the Roanoke-Chowan area.
“We realize and recognize that these shortages are going to hurt a lot of families in Eastern North Carolina,” stated Linda McNair-Moore. “Thusly, we, the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church Health and Wellness Ministry, have launched a Church and Community Service Project – Food Drive. The collected food items will be shared with the Bertie and Hertford County food pantries.”
The public is encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to the Church and Community Service Project. A collection drive is now underway through June 18.
The items can be dropped off between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 18 at the Northeast Center for Human Development, located at 3013 Governors Road, Lewiston.
