Arrests made after vehicle chase ends

AHOSKIE – Two Ahoskie men were arrested after they attempted to outrun law enforcement here earlier this morning (Thursday).

The Ahoskie Police reports the arrests of Tony Moore on the charges of felony flee to elude arrest, resist/delay/obstruct, and damage to personal property. Charges were also lodged against Paris Moore, a passenger in T. Moore’s vehicle, for resist/delay/obstruct.

The incident began at around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Catherine Creek Road in Ahoskie. There, an Ahoskie Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for careless and reckless driving. However, that vehicle sped away, south on Catherine Creek Road, which becomes Jernigan Swamp Road outside the town limits.

The chase continued to the intersection of Jernigan Swamp Road and Center Grove Road in Bertie County. It was there that T. Moore wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot. P. Moore was immediately taken into custody.

T. Moore was arrested at around 6:30 a.m. by the Bertie Sheriff’s Office and the Ahoskie Police.

“We thank the Bertie Sheriff’s Office and the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this incident,” stated Ahoskie Police Deputy Chief Stephen White.
