AHOSKIE, NC – Barbara S. Hall died peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025 in Ahoskie, North Carolina at the age of 84. She was born on November 19, 1940 in Ahoskie, NC to Roosevelt and Madgie Simmons.
She graduated from Robert L. Vann High School in 1958 in Ahoskie, NC, and later continued studies in early childhood education and accounting at Roanoke Chowan Technical Institute. She married Calvin Hall on February 23, 1962 and together they had three children, Belinda, Calvin II, and Gordon.
Barbara spent a fulfilling career with the Hertford County public school system – primarily as a reading teacher. Her passion for teaching was as authentic as her love of parenting – a mission she nurtured with unrivaled devotion.
Through the years, Barbara enjoyed time as a member of the Eastern Star and as a Meherrin Indian tribal council-woman. But it was with family where Barbara found the greatest sense of joy and purpose.
She is survived by her siblings, Harvey Simmons of Moreno Valley, California and Ethel Vaughan of Hampton, VA; children, Belinda Blowe of Ahoskie, NC, Calvin Hall II of Williamsburg, VA and Gordon Hall of Wilmington, NC; and grandchildren, Caroline Hall of Williamsburg, VA and Quintin Blowe of Winterville, NC.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Hall, and sister, Myrna Brooks, of Ahoskie, NC.
A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Philippi Baptist Church in Cofield, NC. Pastor Tony Williams will officiate the ceremony.
Hertford County Undertakers of Winton is handling the arrangements.
