MIDWAY – What started out as a routine call to assist disabled motorists near here on April 19 ended with two individuals arrested on felony drug charges.
According to Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin, his department was notified of a disabled vehicle on US 17 near the Chowan River bridge.
Sgt. M. Lawrence, Deputy J. Jenkins, and Deputy A. Melton responded to the call. Upon their arrival, they spoke with the occupants of the disabled vehicle. While talking with the occupants, Ruffin said deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After asking the occupants was there anything in the vehicle, they admitted that marijuana was in the trunk.
Deputies searched the vehicle and found close to 90 grams of marijuana and 11 MDA pills. MDA often refers to the chemical compound Methylenedioxyamphetamine, a psychoactive drug with stimulant and hallucinogenic effects.
That discovery led to the arrests of Nathaniel Lloyd Davis, age 29 of Providence Forge, VA, and 26-year-old Dillion Wade Melson of Harbinger, NC.
Davis was charged with felony possession with intent to sell/deliver MDA/MDMA, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of marijuana.
Melson was charged with felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a vehicle to sale a control substance.
Ruffin said both individuals were processed and confined into the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail.
